case study: blood flow and fertility

Updated: Jan 4

I received some amazing news last month - a beautiful baby girl was born!

Every client I work with holds a special place in my heart, but this one was another level.

Joanne (clients name changed for privacy) had been suffering with amenorrhea (absent periods) for around six months when we first started working together. Two months into homeopathic treatment, Joanne was told that her only option of conceiving her baby was using donor eggs because her AMH was extremely low. Based on her medical and family history and after throughly understanding her case, I was confident that she could conceive naturally.

Her case shared similarities with many other women I work with - a history of the birth control pill. The pill leaves many women with side effects which are very often normalised. I regularly use homeopathy to detox side effects from synthetic hormones as a part of overall treatment.

What was unusual about Joanne, was that the birth control pill had led to deep vein thrombosis (DVT). While this is listed as a side effect of the pill, I don't often see clients who have had such a severe reaction to the drug.

The conventional treatment for DVT is anticoagulants such as Heparin or Warfarin which reduce the ability of the blood to clot and prevents existing clots from getting bigger. While this treatment can be life saving, it doesn't deal with the reason for the clot occurring in the first place - or in homeopathic speak, the underlying susceptibility.

I believe that the DVT was the result of iatrogenic harm from the pill. If looking at this case from the perspective of conventional medicine, it would appear that the anticoagulants got rid of the DVT and all was well. It is unlikely that a connection would have been made to the amenorrhea years later.

In my mind, there was a clear connection.

Blood is essential to life. It carries oxygen, nutrients and hormones around the body. Often when there is a disruption to the flow such as a clot, getting rid of the clot is like slamming the phone down on someone trying to give you an important message. The message is still trying to get through, you've just shot the messenger.

The clot may have gone but it doesn't mean the cause of the clot has disappeared. This was certainly true in Joanne's case because years down the line, her periods suddenly disappeared - another problem with blood flow. The phone was ringing again.

Synthetic hormones often leave your endocrine cycle imbalanced and Homeopathic Detox Therapy (HDT) is one of a few very successful methods used in practice to help recalibrate your system. But that's not the whole story. The key to this case was understanding what the overall pattern was, what the body was trying to convey, physically, emotionally and mentally. This is why, in my opinion, HDT is only successful when used alongside a constitutional remedy which matches the overall state of a person. You will only have such a severe effect to a drug if you were already weakened in the first place.

Six months of taking the constitutional remedy, with only minor changes led to understandable frustration. Although I felt the remedy state was the same, I started to wonder if I was missing something. I called on a more experienced homeopath for advice. His first thought was that at 40 years old, Joanne was going through early menopause but my instinct told me that this was not the case.

This case illustrates that it's not only the remedies that support healing but the energetic connection established with a homeopath, because a couple of weeks later, I received an email from Joanne to say that she was pregnant.

Despite being labelled as 'high risk', Joanne had a wonderful natural birth supported by her awesome Mum, my Homeopathy for Birth course and homeopathic Placenta which gave her placenta a nudge to be birthed.

Such an amazing story of the gentle yet powerful nature of homeopathy for fertility and birth.
